Protecting your drums from damage is very important to the life of your drums. Using cases or soft bags are recommended for transporting or storing, but a simple drum cover is great to have when your drums are set up for a long period of time. Also try keeping them away from temperature extremes or damp places. The hazard from temperature changes to the drum are; shells expanding, contracting, cracking or even warping. It helps to change your heads periodically and of course use good technique when playing.
Don't hit them. Put them under your bed.
Duane I knew you were going to say that.
Also be sure not to over tighten and make sure you take it apart completely when moving it from place to place.
