Concert snare vs. drumset snare

I need some advice, please. My son has a great drumset, but I would like to get him a concert snare before All-State auditions next month. I can tell the difference between the sound of a concert snare and his drumset snares, but I do not know what to shop for. Can anyone tell me what to look for in a concert snare? Thank you for your help.
