Remo Assorted Fruit Shakers
“Why what a marvelous centerpiece that is!” my Aunt Susan cooed from above her handmade bamboo tablecloth. The beautifully carved bowl was filled with apples, plums, bananas, pears, avocados, oranges and lemons.
“Yes, I brought it just for you,” I replied. It was hard to hide the smirk, but I managed. Boring, stuffy dinners at Aunt Susan’s house were about to come to an end.
Her four meticulously dressed children folded their immaculate hands in their laps on their handmade bamboo cloth napkins. They looked like identical hand-painted versions of children sailors.
I have plans for you kids, I thought. We’re going to turn this stuffy house upside down tonight
During dinner, I slowly began emptying the fruit from the centerpiece into my lap and passed them to the children. Their eyes widened in excitement and terror.
Either Aunt Susan thought it would be bad manners to accuse me of stealing the centerpiece fruit that I brought as a gift, or she didn’t notice.
As dinner was coming to a close, I excused myself to the restroom. I snagged the ol’ school boom box I stashed earlier and casually strolled into the formal dining room and placed the boom box on the table.
“What is this mischief?” my aunt questioned accusingly.
I didn’t reply. I simply exchanged knowing glances with each blue and white striped child and pressed play. Suddenly the sound of a steel drum band started blaring and we began our accompaniment.
A lot of mayhem occurred that night. Eventually my aunt gave up her shocked scowl and joined in. We danced around the leftover sweet potato casserole and rice pilaf, showing them which food group is the boss of fun.
The lesson: If you’ve got a stuffy dinner party to crash or just some kids who need to shake it up a bit, Remo Fruit Shakers are a fun way to change the scene. But be careful, the avocado thinks it’s a vegetable and can turn the entire box into a rebellious veggie gang during delivery. Better spring for expedited shipping.
And finally, orange you glad I didn’t make a banana joke here?
