Based on the classic Gibson used by Nikki Sixx, the Epiphone Thunderbird IV bass has an insanely low price. |

 | The Epiphone Thunderbird IV bass delivers tone that ranges from clean to very rugged. With a rock 'n' roll-approved body, the Thunderbird bass fits professionals, and it's priced to be affordable even for beginners. The Epiphone version of the classic Thunderbird bass design is crafted with an alder body, a 34" scale maple neck, and a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Controls include 2 Volume and a single Tone knob. A pair of humbucking TB pickups bring the bottom end from jazz to metal. The substantial Epiphone Thunderbird IV is well built with solid hardware and stunning looks. You may want to do to yours what Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx did and move the neck-strap button to improve the balance, depending on your size. Epiphone makes the Thunderbird's action easy to adjust to your prefered playing height. |
If you play bass with a pick, Ramones-style, you'll love the Thunderbird IV. It may not be the first bass you'd choose if your style leans more to slapping or popping, but for everything from metal, grunge, and thrash to country and classic rock, Epiphone's Thunderbird IV bass is a tone-blasting machine. |
This is definitely a good looking bass, with an interesting body shape, though it doesn't surprise me to hear that it is a bit neck heavy, due to that top cut-away. So, Nikki Sixx must have moved the top pin to the bottom side of the heal, then? That really sounds like a good idea, for both balance and to help the strap stay on the pins, though the latter problem could also be solved with strap locks, of course.
